My full name is Ana Maria Maganto Ramirez, but I go by Ana for short. I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to the United States when I was 12 years old with my mother and grandmother. I am a rising senior at Duke University earning a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and Political Science with a minor in French.
I applied for and joined DESK because I am incredibly interested in Korean culture as well as refugee issues. I love kpop and kdramas, and I want to move past liking their media to appreciating the culture and history for all its aspects and not just that which is easily accessible and appropriated. Besides this, I am interested in the policy and laws that are in place in different countries relating to refugee processing and resettlement. I studied about refugee policy both in the U.S. and the U.K., and am interested in knowing more about the system that is in place in South Korea especially considering the relationship between North Korea and South Korea.
I also really like dogs, Disney and Duke basketball.
